Refreshed from a good sleep we got up at 7:30 Vienna time. Breakfast was very good. Hard boiled egg, cereal(muesli),juice(apricot, orange),cheese, cold meat, yogurt, croissants, jam, fresh coffee; everything was very nice. The buffet room was done up in the same Baroque motif as the rooms in the hotel.
I got on the Internet to send out a fast email. The Internet is too far from our room so we have to use the buffet room.

Using Steeve's Vienna book we decided to do Stephen's Dome and the SiSi museum and rooms.
We were out earlier than some of the tours. Stephen's Dome has the highest steeple in all of Europe. The church is still under going exterior renovation. We did a tour of the catacombs but almost got locked in. We joined a group and were able to get out. We were impatient to start so we went down the steps to the catacombs but then someone locked the door. We saw where the Hapsburg's were interred body and entrails in alcohol. We also saw the bones of many years of dead parishioners.
On to the SiSi museum. The cost was under the price given in Steeve's book but only by a little -.10 Euro.
You have to realize that it is HOT here and there is very little air-conditioning! The temperature is around 30 Celsius or more. The church and the museum were hot...the catacombs were cool but musty.
It has been sunny so far but I thought I heard rainfall last night, I must have been dreaming.

The SiSi (Elizabeth, the wife of Franz Josef I) museum started with the dining utensils and plates and table settings (fit for a king obviously). The second section dealt with the life and death (assassination) of SiSi. Then the rooms of Franz Josef and then SiSi's rooms. We had audio guides but after a while they became tiring. It was hot and got hotter as we progressed.

We got back to the apartment about 2 pm had a shower and headed off to Flanagan's Irish pub for a little lunch. We ended up with one special split between the two of us and it was more than enough;plus a couple of Gosser beers 14.2 Euros plus tip (10% in Austria). We headed back to the apartment, only 2 blocks away.
When we went to the Sisi Museum, we had purchased 2 tickets for a Mozart festival at a opera hall (not the big Vienna opera)so we planned supper at Gyro's from the Rick Steeve's guide. The restaurant was everything that Steeve's had said but the price was higher than we budgeted for but we had appetizers and a fish dinner.
We were very full after dinner and after being dehydrated for two days something had to give.
Going to the opera house was also a small problem. I left the map in the apartment because the opera theatre was “close”. It was but we had to ask for directions twice but we arrived in good time.
We had good seats but farther away than we would have liked.
The orchestra was excellent and the baritone and soprano were super.
The highlight of the night was the Vienna Waltz near the end but the clapping by the audience for the Radetski March was great. It definitely was a hit with everyone.
The theatre was air-conditioned but not to the degree we would have liked. Our walk home felt the same as the walk during the day... the temperature is still high.
Tomorrow we will be off for Budapest. The first order of business will be to find the highway.
